Analyst Report Templates
Templates establish consistent structure for case reports in Analyst, ensuring uniform formatting across your organization.
What are report templates?
Templates define sections, headings, and formatting for final outputs. Your organization manages both TRULEO's built-in templates and your own custom templates through the Template Library.
Accessing the Template Library
From the navigation bar (any page):
Click the Templates icon in the TRULEO navigation bar to open the Template Library without needing to be inside a specific case.
From within a case:
- Open a case and click the Files & Evidence tab
- Click Edit Template in the toolbar

The Template Library contains:
- TRULEO templates — built-in templates organized by category, usable as-is or duplicated for customization
- My Templates — custom organizational templates you can edit or delete
TRULEO template categories
Built-in templates are grouped into three categories:
- Analyze — breaking down incident details, evidence, and timelines
- Evaluate — assessing findings, use-of-force, or officer performance
- Assess — evaluating solvability, risk, and case readiness
Key built-in templates include:
- Executive Summary — high-level case overview with key facts and recommended actions
- Solvability Assessment — structured evaluation using a six-factor weighted scoring model (see the Solvability Assessment article for details)
- Recommended Next Steps — prioritized investigative actions
- Preliminary Findings — initial evidence review and early-stage summary

Creating custom templates
- Open the Template Library
- Click + New Template
- Enter a descriptive name (for example: "Traffic Accident Narrative" or "Command-Level Summary")
- Define sections and structural guidelines
- Click Save
Templates appear under My Templates and in the report generation dropdown.
Editing or deleting templates
Only custom templates under My Templates can be modified. TRULEO's built-in templates cannot be changed. Use the Edit or Delete options next to template names.
Selecting templates when generating reports
In the Files & Evidence tab, the template dropdown groups options under MY TEMPLATES and TRULEO subheaders for quick scanning. To generate a report:
- Select relevant files using checkboxes
- Choose a template from the dropdown
- Click Generate Report
- Review the draft in the TRULEO Reports tab
Viewing reports in fullscreen
Click the fullscreen button in the report toolbar to expand the report viewer. To exit, click the exit button inside the fullscreen view or press Escape.
The report viewer displays rendered output by default. Raw Markdown source is hidden unless your organization has enabled source editing.
Best practices
- Duplicate and customize built-in templates rather than building from scratch
- Create custom templates for common report types (patrol narratives, investigative summaries, interview transcripts)
- Use descriptive names for quick identification
- Review and update templates as departmental policies change
