Combining field notes
If you've recorded multiple field notes for the same incident or shift, you can combine them into a single entry. This is useful when you've dictated separate updates throughout an incident and want a unified note before requesting a polished report.
When to combine field notes
- You dictated at-scene notes and then added follow-up observations after the incident
- Multiple officers contributed notes to the same case
- You have separate audio entries you want merged into one written narrative
How to combine field notes
- Open Field Notes from the top navigation and select the My Notes tab
- Select the first note you want to combine — check the box next to it
- Check the boxes next to at least one additional note (two or more total)
- Click Combine Selected Field Notes in the toolbar
- TRULEO creates a new combined entry with transcripts merged in chronological order

After combining
The combined note appears as a single entry. From here you can:
- Edit the text directly before requesting a report
- Click Generate Report to produce a polished written report from the combined note
- Attach the combined note to an Analyst case
The original individual notes remain in your list after combining. You can keep, edit, or delete them separately.
Best practices
- Combine notes before generating a report — this produces a more cohesive narrative than running separate reports
- Review the combined text after merging and correct any sequencing issues before generating the final report
- If combining notes from multiple officers, designate one officer to do the final combine and report generation to avoid duplicate reports
