How to perform an OSINT Search in TruAssist

TRULEO’s digital assistant, TruAssist, can perform open‑source intelligence (OSINT) lookups on people, vehicles, phone numbers, addresses and businesses. These lookups pull together publicly available information and display it in a single briefing

Overview

When you need background information on a subject not found in local systems, an OSINT search can fill the gap. TruAssist allows you to type a natural‑language query (e.g., “run an OSINT check on 555‑123‑4567” or “OSINT search John Doe, born 1/1/1985”) and then returns a fully sourced report. Lookups can be performed on:

  • Phone numbers

  • Individuals

  • Vehicles (license plate or VIN)

  • Addresses or businesses

Step‑by‑step process

  1. Start a chat and pose your OSINT question. In TruAssist’s chat box, enter a prompt specifying the phone number, person, vehicle, address or business you want to research. Use natural language (e.g., “OSINT lookup on 555‑123‑4567”) so the assistant understands your request.

  2. Let the agent work. TruAssist advises that OSINT lookups take roughly 10–15 minutes to finish. During this time you can stay in the tab and watch progress updates or navigate away and return later; the agent will continue searching and provide a cached response when you re‑ask the question.

  3. Review the briefing. When the lookup completes, TruAssist produces a full OSINT briefing. The report consolidates the data and includes citations so you can verify each detail.

  4. Download the report. If you need to share the results or add them to a case file, click the Download option to export the OSINT briefing.

  5. Enable the feature if necessary. OSINT lookup is an optional capability. If you do not see the OSINT option, contact TRULEO support at support@truleo.co to have it enabled on your account.

Tips

  • Be specific: When possible, include identifying details like birth dates, license plates or phone numbers to narrow the search.

  • Verify sources: Although the briefing aggregates data, always cross‑check critical details against official records before taking action.

By following these steps, officers can leverage open‑source data to gain valuable context on people and assets, complementing the information found in department systems.
