Menus in Field Notes
Field Notes in TRULEO includes multiple menus that help officers capture, organize and refine reports
The three main menus used in Field Notes are Template, Digital Notepad and Enhanced Narrative (sometimes displayed simply as Narrative). Each menu serves a distinct purpose—templates provide a structured outline, the digital notepad holds the raw notes and attachments, and the narrative menu produces a polished report that can be added to a case.
Key steps
- Open the Template tab – Use the Template menu to view the pre‑set structure for your report. Templates contain headings such as Summary, Traffic Unit 1, Traffic Unit 2, Names, Dates or Info and Declarations, giving you control of how your report is formatted and outputted.
- Record details in the Digital Notepad – As you dictate or type information, TruAssist populates the Digital Notepad. This tab captures the original conversation, officer notes, attachments and any policy guidance. It’s the raw material for your report.
- Generate the Enhanced Narrative – After recording your notes, click Generate Enhanced Narrative. TruAssist combines the information in the digital notepad with the pre‑set template to create a structured, polished narrative. The narrative menu shows the final report and allows you to edit or add more detail.
Example workflow
An officer investigating a traffic collision opens the Field Notes tool in TruAssist. They start by reviewing the Template tab to see the required sections (such as Summary, Traffic Unit 1 and Traffic Unit 2). Using voice dictation, they describe the scene, list vehicle details and note witness statements. TruAssist records these comments in the Digital Notepad, along with any attachments or BWC Video Insights. After finishing, the officer clicks Generate Enhanced Narrative. TruAssist compiles the raw notes into a structured report, filling in the template headings and producing a polished narrative.
