Enhanced Narrative Overview

1. Accessing the Enhanced Narrative Tab

Open Field Notes from the TRULEO navigation bar.
Select an existing note or click New Note.
Click the Enhanced Narrative tab at the top of the workspace.

This view is divided into two main areas:

Left panel – Your raw inputs (Digital Notepad, Video Insights, Format guidelines)
Right panel – The AI-generated narrative and conversation with TruAssist

2. How the Narrative Is Generated

The narrative is created using three primary information sources:

A. Your Digital Notepad Notes

Any text you type or paste into the Digital Notepad feeds directly into the narrative.

B. Formatting Preferences

Selections made under the Format tab influence:

Tone
Level of detail
Structure
Section headings
Writing style (e.g., concise, expanded, chronological)

C. Body-Worn Camera Video Insights (if applicable)

If the incident has BWC linked:

TRULEO summarizes events into bullet points
Key timestamps and actions are extracted
These insights help fill gaps or validate chronology

3. Viewing the AI-Generated Narrative

When you open the Enhanced Narrative tab after adding notes:

TRULEO automatically generates a first draft aligned with your report type and format settings.
The narrative appears in the right-hand panel.
Each section is logically structured using the formatting template you selected.

This draft includes:

Clear chronology
Professionally written sentences
Consolidated information from your notes
Automatically corrected grammar and spelling

You remain the author — the narrative is editable.

4. Regenerating or Revising the Narrative

You can refine the narrative at any time:

Regenerate Narrative

Click Generate Narrative to:

Refresh the narrative after adding new notes
Apply a different format
Update the report type

Ask TruAssist for changes

Use the chat panel on the right to request revisions such as:

“Make the narrative more concise.”
“Add more detail about witness statements.”
“Rewrite this in first person.”

TRULEO will regenerate only the requested parts while preserving the rest.

5. Editing the Narrative Manually

Officers can freely edit any portion of the draft:

Click anywhere in the narrative text
Add, delete, or modify content
TRULEO will not overwrite your manual edits unless regeneration is explicitly requested

This ensures:

Full officer control
Compliance with department writing standards
Accurate articulation of events

6. Best Practices for Using Enhanced Narrative Effectively

Provide detailed notes
- More detail = more accurate narrative.
Select the correct report format before generating
- Prevents major restructuring later.
Add BWC insights when available
- It improves accuracy and chronology.
Use TruAssist for targeted rewrites
- Useful for:
  - Summaries
  - Expansions
  - Tone adjustments
  - Compliance wording
Perform a final manual review

- Confirm:
  - Names and spellings
  - Times and locations
  - Use-of-force elements
  - Additional statutory language

7. What the Enhanced Narrative Is Not

The Enhanced Narrative is not:

A replacement for officer judgment
A final RMS-format narrative (you may still copy/paste into RMS)
A legal review
A disposition determination
