What can TRULEO AI analyze?

TRULEO has several AI features — TruAssist, Analyst, and Field Notes — and each works differently. This article clarifies what the AI can analyze, where your data is stored, and how chat history behaves.

TruAssist — conversational AI

TruAssist answers policy, statute, and situational questions by voice or text. It can also connect to agency systems (CAD, RMS, OSINT) when your organization has the relevant connectors enabled.

What TruAssist analyzes:

  • Questions you ask in the chat interface
  • Department policies and statutes (uploaded or connected)
  • CAD/RMS data when connectors are active
  • OSINT and LPR lookups when enabled for your organization

What TruAssist does not do:

  • Automatically analyze files you have not asked about
  • Retain conversation history — TruAssist follows a zero data retention policy. Conversations and wellness assessments are not stored or used to train AI models.

Does TruAssist remember me after I log out?
No. TruAssist does not persist your chat history across sessions. Each new conversation starts fresh.

See TruAssist Overview and Sources in TruAssist.

Analyst — case review and report generation

Analyst is TRULEO's AI for investigators. You upload case files, then Analyst indexes them for search, chat, and report generation.

What Analyst analyzes:

  • Files you upload to a case — PDFs, Word documents, spreadsheets, images
  • Audio recordings (MP3, WAV, M4A, and other supported formats)
  • Video files (MP4, MOV, and other supported formats)
  • Field Notes narratives you add to a case via Add to Case

What Analyst references:

  • Only the files in the case you are working on — not general knowledge or internet data
  • Selected files you check before generating a report

What Analyst stores:

  • Case files and generated reports remain in your case until you delete them
  • Analyst Chat history is tied to the case you are viewing

See TRULEO Analyst: For Investigators.

Can Analyst analyze these specific file types?

Content type Supported? Notes
PDF incident reports Yes Upload directly to a case
HTML exports (e.g., warrant returns) Yes HTML is a supported document format
Audio recordings Yes Allow time for transcription processing
Jail call recordings Yes, when uploaded Upload as supported audio format; quality affects transcription
BWC video Yes, when uploaded or connected Connected BWC video syncs automatically; otherwise upload manually
Medical records Yes, when uploaded Follow your agency's policy — see HIPAA, medical records, and CJIS
Encrypted or password-protected files No Remove protection before uploading
Corrupted files No Re-export and upload a clean copy

Field Notes — narrative and report writing

Field Notes uses AI to help draft reports from your dictation, templates, and attached evidence.

What Field Notes analyzes:

  • Your voice dictation and typed input
  • Templates and checklists configured for your agency
  • Files and recordings you attach to a narrative

Field Notes narratives can be copied into Analyst cases using Add to Case.

Clearing AI history

Feature How to clear history
TruAssist No action needed — conversations are not retained
Analyst Chat History is per-case; delete the case or start a new case for a fresh workspace
Field Notes Each narrative is a separate record; delete or archive as needed

AI accuracy and review

AI-generated summaries and reports are starting points — not final work product. Always review output for accuracy and alignment with your department's policy before submitting reports or making case decisions.

See the FAQ entry on how TRULEO protects against AI hallucinations.

Best practices

  • Upload all relevant case files before asking Analyst to summarize or generate reports.
  • Wait for files to finish processing before running AI features.
  • Use TruAssist for policy and statute questions; use Analyst for case-specific evidence review.
  • Manually review every AI-generated report before finalizing.
