Write a report with TruAssist
TruAssist turns a spoken or typed narrative into a report draft. It points out what's missing, writes the draft, and lets you revise it in the same conversation before you save or share it.
Start with your narrative
- Open TruAssist from the top navigation.
- Click Create chat if you want a fresh conversation for this report.
- Choose how you want to enter your narrative with the toggle below the message box:
- Type — type or paste your narrative.
- Dictate — click Start Recording, speak, then click Stop Recording. TruAssist shows Transcribing… while it converts your recording to text.
- Push-to-Talk — press and hold Space to talk. This option isn't available on mobile.
- Tell TruAssist what you want, for example: "Write an incident report from this narrative."

Dictation tips
- Speak naturally. You don't need to fix mistakes or fill pauses as you go.
- Cover who, what, when, where, and how in the order it happened.
- Say names, addresses, and times clearly, and spell out unusual names.
- If a word comes out wrong, correct it in your next message instead of re-recording the whole narrative.
Fill in missing information
After your narrative, TruAssist identifies details a complete report needs and asks for them. Answer in the chat, by text or voice. You can also use the suggested follow-ups that appear after each response.
Review and revise the draft
TruAssist writes the draft in the conversation. Read it against your own account, then ask for changes in plain language:
- "Move the arrest details to the end."
- "Make this shorter and use past tense."
- "Add that the suspect was cooperative after the stop."
- "Fix the time of the call to 2:15 PM."
Each revision updates the draft in the same conversation. Keep asking until the draft is accurate.
Save or share the finished report
When the draft is ready, use the buttons on the response.
Save it to a case
If you have Analyst case access, each completed response shows two buttons:
- Save as Report — adds the response to a case as a Report.
- Add to Case — adds the response to a case as an Evidence file. It appears in the Evidence tab on the case.
Both open the Add Content To… dialog.
- Enter a name in the Report name field.
- Search for one or more cases.
- Click the Add to… button.
Reports saved from TruAssist include a Citations section.
Download it
Click Download and choose PDF (.pdf), Word (.docx), or Excel (.xlsx). In an Excel download, each table in the response gets its own sheet, and the rest of the text goes on the last sheet.
Create a PowerPoint
Click Download and choose Create PowerPoint (.pptx). TruAssist sends the request for you as a new message, builds a simple presentation from the response, and replies with a .pptx file to download. The deck has a plain layout, so open it in PowerPoint to polish it before you share it.
Best practices
- Use one chat for each report so TruAssist works from only that incident's details.
- Read the full draft before you save it. You're responsible for what the report says.
- Save the report to a case before you leave. TruAssist keeps conversations for 12 hours.
- Upload long source records as a file instead of pasting them. See Working in long TruAssist sessions.
