All department's should establish a policy governing the mechanism for the automated review of the their BWC video.
- The policy should reinforce the department’s commitment to the ongoing professional development and recognition of its officers and the need to maintain the integrity and security of personal identifiable information, civilian privacy, and the department’s computer systems.
- The policy should apply to all members of the department who access the TRULEO application or who are assigned or are otherwise responsible for BWC or in-car camera hardware, software, or data (including audio and video recordings) relating to these devices.
- The policy should clearly state that the objective is to leverage this BWC data analytics technology to streamline operations, mitigate risks, enhance legitimacy, and facilitate individualized recognition to increase morale, ignite performance, and promote police professionalism.
- The policy should outline a set of goals that are:
- Specific: The objective clearly states what will be done and who will do it.
- Measurable: The objective includes how the action will be measured.
- Achievable: The goal is realistic and possible to complete within the set time frame.
- Relevant: The goal aligns with values and long-term goals and objectives.
- Time-bound: The goal is set within an appropriate time frame.
A sample model policy is included here for your department's reference and consideration that covers general usage of TRULEO. A policy specific to the use of Field Notes and AI in report narrative generation is available here.
